  One of the best movies of 2023 is finally coming to streaming this weekend. Godzilla Minus One is a low-budget, extremely well-made monster movie that puts pretty much all of the American Godzilla flicks to shame. I absolutely loved this movie and I’m not even a huge Godzilla fan. I’ve been pretty much entirely burnt out on the Western Godzilla and Kong films. But Godzilla Minus One, which takes place in the days after World War II when Japan is rebuilding after the nuclear carnage, is a different beast altogether. It has a great story with compelling characters and manages to make Kong truly terrifying with some clever special effects that cost a fraction of the American Godzilla movies. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum sentence of life in prison, officials said. The latest edition of Apple’s AirPods Pro, for instance, automatically adjusts sound levels for wearers — sensing when they’re in conversation, for instance — but the user has little control over whom to listen to or when this happens. A University of Washington team has developed an artificial intelligence system that lets a user wearing headphones look at a person speaking for three to five seconds to “enroll” them. The system, called “Target Speech Hearing,” then cancels all other sounds in the environment and plays just the enrolled speaker’s voice in real time even as the listener moves around in noisy places and no longer faces the speaker.   Dollar Tree announced Wednesday it acquired leases for 170 of 99 Cents Only’s stores out of bankruptcy in Arizona, California, Nevada and Texas. Dollar Tree will reopen these stores with its own products under its brand beginning in the fall. 99 Cents Only had filed for bankruptcy in April and closed all of its 370 locations. The two chains are very different, and the announcement is a sign of consolidation in the retail industry. 99 Cents Only was a regional chain and sold groceries. Dollar Tree, a national company with mostly suburban locations, primarily offers discretionary merchandise like party supplies and home goods. Dollar Tree was the last dollar store chain to sell everything for $1 before raising prices in 2021 to $1.25 and above. Dollar Tree also owns Family Dollar, based mostly in cities. Family Dollar has underperformed Dollar Tree and other discount chains in recent years, and it’s closing 975 stores.

  Earlier on Monday, I was preparing an analysis of what was widely purported to be a “historic” agreement between the Power 5 Conferences and the NCAA.
